Mathieu van der Poel rides for Alpecin-Premier Tech (formerly Alpecin-Deceuninck through 2025) and has proven himself as the most versatile cyclist of his generation. He has won eight Cyclocross World Championships (2015, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026), the 2023 Road World Championship, and the 2024 Gravel World Championship, making him the only man to hold world titles in three disciplines. He has won the Tour of Flanders three times, Paris-Roubaix three times, and Milan-San Remo twice. He has accumulated over 50 cyclocross World Cup victories. He is the son of Adrie van der Poel and grandson of Raymond Poulidor, carrying cycling aristocracy in his bloodline.

Shimano's 12-speed semi-wireless road groupset launched in 2021. Shift levers run on coin-cell batteries communicating wirelessly; derailleurs wire to an internal seatpost battery. Shimano claims 58% faster rear shifting and 45% faster front shifting versus the R9150. The R9270 hydraulic disc variant uses ServoWave lever technology.
