Hilaree Nelson was born in Seattle, Washington, and became a professional ski mountaineer in 1999 when The North Face signed her as a sponsored athlete. Over her career she completed more than 40 expeditions to 16 countries with dozens of first descents. On May 25, 2012, she became the first woman to summit Everest and Lhotse in a single 24-hour push. In September 2018, she and Jim Morrison completed the first ski descent of the Lhotse Couloir from 27,940 feet. She died on September 26, 2022, after falling while skiing from the summit of Mount Manaslu in Nepal.
