Ashima Shiraishi climbed Horizon (V15/8C) in Japan in March 2016 at age 14, becoming the first female and youngest person to reach that bouldering grade. She started climbing at age six on Rat Rock in Central Park, New York. By age 10 she had climbed V13, and at 13 she climbed 5.14d/5.15a in sport, the youngest person to reach that level. She won IFSC World Youth Championships in Lead and Bouldering in 2015, 2016, and 2017. The documentary Ashima (2023) follows her pursuit of elite bouldering.
